Captain Ruin back on the streets!

That's a wrap! After 2 years of performing and touring with Circus Oz it is time to say goodbye (for now) to Model Citizens. It's been an epic and amazing ride, with the show that I helped create being performed 186 times across Australia and the world, in places as diverse as outback community halls, big tops in Melbourne and Sydney, traditional circus venues in Madrid and finally finishing up with a sold out season at the Tolwood winter festival in Munich.

I've uploaded a gallery of images here to document all the crazy stuff I got to perform in this show - check it out in the Images section.

Coming up in 2019 I have my new solo show AutoCannibal in the works, with plans to premiere it in Melbourne in July. And i've got a few secret and exciting sideshow projects bubbling away that i'll share with you soon. But as a newly available, free-agent carny once again, i'm excited to play, perform and make work whenever and wherever, so if you need a punk rock daredevil, freakshow clown, MC or outside eye for your event, don't hesitate to get in touch!

AutoCannibal Creative Development

AutoCannibal is a new work of physical theatre created and performed by Mitch Jones, directed by Masha Terentieva and with a live sound design by Marco Cher-Gibard. This video shows the first creative development on the project in July 2018.

"Why do we do things that we know are bad for us? AutoCannibal examines the human impulse to self destruction on an individual, social and global level. The body of the performer is the eco-system that supports human life. His actions of danger, futility, obsession and self harm represent the curious choices made by human societies that are steering us towards environmental catastrophe. Addiction, obesity, corruption, greed, cruelty, nuclear war, climate change. On all fronts the homo sapien seems intent on wiping itself out through perplexingly myopic decision making. Maybe we don't really want to be here. Maybe we're just always hungry. But what will we eat when we've consumed it all? Ourselves."

This work was created and produced on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation, to which sovereignty was never ceded. We want to pay our respect to the elders past and present of all Indigenous Australians, and work towards full and proper reconciliation as the best future for all Australians.

UK / Ireland / Europe

Wow what a huge UK/EU summer that was!

After temporarily finishing up with Circus Oz (we'll be back on the road later this year) I headed over to Glasgow, Scotland to meet up with the Death Do Us Part Dangershow - in my opinion one of the best sideshows currently touring the globe. We tore through the UK and Ireland over three and half weeks, finishing up at the Dublin Tattoo Convention. Then The Syndicate Sideshow played Boomtown Fair with the Last Gang in Town crew at their punk tent, which is still definitely my favourite festival gig ever!

If you're keen to see more of my adventures, check me out on Instagram @captainruin - i've been posting a lot more frequently on there.

Coming up next, now that i'm back in Australia, is a new season of Relax: Everything's Fucked by The Syndicate Sideshow in Melbourne. I'll be posting more about that real soon, but for now - stay freaky and keep being nice to each other!
